Personal Book Sets

Curated book sets for pastors and graduates who lack access to biblical resources

Across the Global South, a quiet crisis is unfolding in the church. Congregations are growing. Pastors are answering the call to shepherd them. But in country after country, those pastors are stepping into the pulpit with almost nothing — a Bible if they’re fortunate, the notes from whatever training they received, and the weight of a flock depending on them.

This is not a failure of character or commitment. It is a failure of access. The books that could deepen their understanding of Scripture, sharpen their preaching, and help them shepherd their people well simply do not exist in their context — too expensive, not available locally, or never able to arrive at all.

We believe every pastor deserves more than good intentions. He deserves the tools to do the job the Lord has called him to.

When a pastor is better equipped, his entire congregation benefits.

What a  Personal Book Set Includes

Working with ministry partners and seminary networks on the ground, GCBF curates book sets around what pastors and graduates need most — a study Bible, a Bible dictionary, key theology texts, and practical ministry resources — all verified to be biblically faithful, contextually appropriate, and available in the pastor’s own language. These are not random donations. Our partners know their communities and know exactly which books will be most useful to the leaders they serve.

When a pastor is better equipped, his entire congregation benefits. His sermons go deeper. His counsel is wiser. His ability to disciple and train others grows. The impact of a single book set ripples outward for decades.

Graduating with Nothing to Build On

Most Bible colleges and seminaries in the regions we serve simply don’t have the budget to provide students with books they can keep. Students may study from a shared classroom copy, a photocopied excerpt, or a professor’s notes for the length of a course — and then hand it all back. When they graduate, they walk into their first pulpit or classroom with a diploma but no library of their own.

For a young pastor or teacher starting out, that’s more than an inconvenience. It means the resources that shaped his training aren’t there to keep shaping his ministry once he’s on his own. A personal book set changes that.

Meet Pastor Joely

Joely is a pastor and farmer on the outskirts of Antsiribé, Madagascar. He studies during his one open hour each day — lunchtime — because he has no electricity and can’t afford candles to read by after dark.

When we brought him a small library of thirty books and a study Bible, he and his wife examined each one with tears in their eyes, touching the covers, marveling at the maps and notes.

It was a simple gift that cost us relatively little. To Pastor Joely, it was a treasure.

A Global Opportunity

Joely is not alone. In villages, towns, and cities across Africa, Asia, and Latin America, there are thousands of pastors and graduates just like him — faithful, called, and under-resourced. This is a unique opportunity for Christians in the West to come alongside pastors and leaders around the world and give them the tools to build healthy, thriving churches.

Give Toward This Need

Gifts to Global Christian Book Fund go to our general ministry fund, which we use to source, ship, and deliver book sets to pastors and Bible school students across Africa, Asia, Latin America, and beyond. We keep overhead low, negotiate the best publisher pricing available, and regularly receive donated books — so your giving goes as far as possible.

A special gift of any amount moves us closer to the next pastor, the next library, the next church strengthened by God’s Word. Would you consider going further? A monthly gift lets us plan ahead, commit to shipments, and say yes when a pastor reaches out for help. Monthly donors are the backbone of everything we do.

Help Meet This Need

Make a gift today and help equip a pastor or graduate with the books that will shape their ministry for years to come. Or consider a monthly gift — consistent giving lets us respond as new pastors and graduates come forward, without delay.

All gifts to the Global Christian Book Fund support our general ministry fund. We direct resources where the need is greatest, working with trusted partners on the ground. The projects described on this page represent the kind of work your giving makes possible.
