How a simple request led to 45 theological textbooks reaching 13 seminary students
When Hernan Wu of Training Leaders International reached out to Global Christian Book Fund, he had a straightforward but urgent request: 13 seminary students in Cameroon were about to begin their New Testament Background and Message and Principles of Biblical Interpretation classes, and they needed textbooks.
The courses required three core texts — a substantial investment that many students in the developing world simply cannot afford. Wu asked whether GCBF could help provide 15 copies of each book: one for every student, plus two for the seminary library.
The answer was yes.
The Books
The three required textbooks represent the kind of serious theological formation that shapes ministry for decades:
- The Cradle, the Cross and the Crown: An Introduction to the New Testament by Andreas J. Köstenberger et al.
- Interpreting the Pauline Epistles by Thomas R. Schreiner
- Four Portraits, One Jesus: An Introduction to the Gospels by Mark L. Strauss
Together, these volumes give students the tools to read, interpret, and teach the New Testament with depth and confidence — exactly the kind of foundation pastors need before they stand before a congregation.
In Their Own Words
Gaston, one of the students in the program, shares in his own words what these books have meant for his theological training.
