5,400 Books in Khmer: Equipping Pastors Across Cambodia

We are thankful to have partnered with Action Cambodia to distribute theological books to pastors across Cambodia.

Cambodia is a country of remarkable resilience. The Khmer Rouge regime, which held power from 1975 to 1979, brought catastrophic destruction to the nation — and the church was nearly wiped out entirely. Churches were destroyed, Bibles burned, and an entire generation of religious leaders was killed. That the church exists today, and is growing, is a testament to God’s grace and the tenacity of Cambodian believers.

Yet many pastors, especially in rural areas, serve faithfully with very limited financial resources and little to no formal theological training. They love their congregations and preach week after week, but without access to solid resources, they are largely left to figure it out on their own. Purchasing theological books is often simply out of reach — and Christian resources in the Khmer language remain relatively rare, making the gap even wider.

For a pastor with no formal training, a book in his own language is not just a resource — it is a lifeline. It is the closest thing to sitting in a classroom, learning from men who have spent their lives studying and applying God’s Word.

That is why we are so encouraged by this partnership. Through Action Cambodia, we were able to distribute an 18-book bundle — all in Khmer — to 300 pastors across the country, putting 5,400 books into the hands of Cambodian church leaders. These sets include works by John Piper, Kevin DeYoung, Greg Gilbert, J.C. Ryle, A.W. Pink, Ajith Fernando, and Wayne Grudem. Resources that have shaped pastors around the world are now in the hands of Cambodian church leaders in their own language.

Cambodia has already walked through so much darkness. It is a joy to come alongside those who are carrying light into its communities. We are grateful to play a small role in supporting the church there, and thankful for partners like Action Cambodia who help make it possible.
